Paul Devlin

Hi! I am a Computer Science student working towards my Bachelor's degree at the University of Dallas.
I have been working with everything from HTML to the Floyd–Warshall Algorithm for the past six years. I cannot wait to expand my knowledge and apply my skill set to new challenges.

Skills

Can use

Java, Python, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Racket, Git, Windows

Have used

Javascript, Bash, Swift, Linux, React, Django, EC2, Windows Server 2012, Materialize

Activities

Competitive Programming
I have practiced with the University of Dallas Programming Team for a year and I am currently competing with them. In 2017, I qualified for Google Code Jam.
ACM
I have been an active member of the ACM chapter at the University of Dallas ever since I started here in Fall of 2016. As part of my ACM activities, I have helped with two hackathons: CALVIN, which automatically logs students into the wifi captive portal, and the new UD website, which hopes to make information more available to the university's students.
Stock Trading
I tested stock trading strategies with Python and Java all through high school. In June of 2015, I helped a professional trader see how his trading algorithm would perform by writing a Python program to simulate its trades.

Completed Projects

Little Rat

Little Rat is a Java application I made in 2017. It maps each of 100,000 English words to the word which sounds most similar to it. "Most similar" is defined by a scoring system and the same global alignment algorithm used to compare sequences of DNA. Little Rat includes a GUI to test its word mappings. It can be used for both lyric composition and speech recognition.

Swapper

Swapper is an action game I made in 2016. It is written in Racket, a functional programming language based on Scheme. There are two types of enemies and the player can swap one type with the other at will.

Automated Trading

In 2015 I made a Java application that executes an option trading strategy through Interactive Brokers' TWS. The application collects market data, makes trading decisions, places orders, and saves statistics on risk exposure and trading costs.
